Kate Reid-Payne & Helen Mollineaux
Have you ever been to a gym that feels more like a friendly neighbourhood PT session than a corporate cash cow? No? Neither had Kate Reid-Payne. Tired with the cookie-cutter approach to fitness, Kate wanted to create something unique – a boutique exercise hub where the various disciplines of functional fitness could come together under the one roof.
Kate envisaged a stylish, fun and inviting space, where the fitness folk of Richmond and beyond could unite and sweat it out to funky tunes in a safe and motivating environment. A place where nutritious recipes could be shared, personal achievements celebrated and transformative energy would abound.
After a marathon mental workout (and a few dozen protein shakes), Studio Technic was born. The result is an uber-cool, super-professional, community-spirited fitness space in the bustling heart of Richmond. Kate’s passion and years of fitness expertise can be seen in everything from the equipment and classes to the membership structure and feel-good
Add to the mix Helen - a former long-distance runner, fitness supremo and marketing guru – and Studio Technic is making some serious moves of its own. Together Kate and Helen are a workout powerhouse, delivering the best fitness studio in Richmond.
Not bad for a Welsh lass who once possessed more dance moves than business acumen and a mum of two who marketed wagon wheels for a living (forgive her!).

Don’t be intimidated if Kate hoists a KettleBell over her head with the effortless grace of a ballerina lifting a tiara. A trained dancer with more than two decades’ experience on stage and in-studio, Kate is a master of movement. But don’t think the taps, turns and twists have made her soft; she could drag a bear through the woods with one arm in a splint – such is the power of functional fitness.
Kate is the director of Studio Technic and our chief trainer (we’d call her the chief butt buster but she’s a teddy bear... really). Kate has been dancing, singing and writing music since she was a pipsqueak (some would call her a closet show-off), which means two things: she has an intimate working knowledge of movement, muscle and the human body; and her playlists get people pumped like the tyres in a peloton.
What gets Kate pumped more than anything is seeing her clients reach their fitness goals. She knows when to push people, when to hold back and when to offer a shoulder to lean on. Kate’s got more fitness credentials than Serena has grand slams (seriously) and is fulfilling her dream of running her own boutique studio. A studio that’s based on the principles of care and community, strength and stamina, fun and fitness. When Kate’s not helping clients smash a PB, you’ll find her scoping out Melbourne’s live music and theatre scenes, travelling to exotic places, or cheering on her beloved Doggies (and you thought those guns were from exercise – on the contrary, it’s all that Grand Final fist pumping).

If you’ve got weight to shed, blame Helen! For years she worked in marketing and sales management roles, peddling consumer naughties like cakes, biscuits and carb-laden bread. Thankfully, she’s seen the light and is now on the other side of the health and wellness spectrum – helping members trim down, tone up and boost their strength and fitness.
Helen was a mad-keen long-distance runner from age 16 (hence she could get away with the odd culinary nasty), but all that changed when Kate introduced her to functional fitness four years ago. It sparked a light bulb moment and Helen has been addicted to Kate’s kind of training ever since. It was such an unshakeable addiction that it inspired Helen to change her life’s course, going back to school to become a fitness trainer.
She hasn’t looked back and is now a much-loved part of the furniture at Studio Technic. Helen believes age is no barrier to exercise and that our bodies can move in amazing ways – no matter their vintage! It’s not about go hard or go home, but about having fun.
When Helen’s not training members, you can find her helping out with the family’s construction and development business or giving her two teenage daughters a run for their money in the studio. She often outperforms them on the floor, but the girls would never tell Aunty Kate that.

The mother country gave us many things – cricket, pints and Yorkshire pud – but our greatest British import is arguably a fitness aficionado called Rhian. Hailing from Cheshire, Rhian is the latest trainer to join the team and can be found putting our patrons through their paces.
For years the former corporate high-flyer was a desk-bound pen-pusher for the UK government, until she moved to Australia with her family and pursued her passion for health and fitness. Now the only pushing Rhian does is on her hands and toes in the studio, and her highs come from helping clients achieve their wellness goals.
Rhian believes exercise is good for the soul and that slogging it out in the studio benefits the mind as much as the body. Better still, pump up the music, bust a few Latino dance moves and she’s in exercise ecstasy. If you haven’t already guessed, dance is Rhian’s other passion, and she dares anyone who thinks Zumba is a lame excuse for cardio to join in one of her classes.
When she’s not shaking her booty, Rhian can be found fuelling her health food addiction in the kitchen, where she whips up nutritious treats for her two young children.
